| Update plus more |
December 7, 2000 |
|
The update was delayed a few days because a new bug popped into the code as we were adding the last touches. In addition, we've been adding a few features that weren't intended for this release but were deemed necessary. It will be out shortly.
|
| Update just around the corner |
December 3, 2000 |
|
The new update is just around the corner. Expect the full install around tomorrow night or so, and the update to that version the following night (numerous changes have been made to the databases and we'd like to see if we can create a simple update script). Depending on time, localization may be dropped from this update and be featured in an update available next week.

| New License, New Features, New Reasons to love The Pubb |
October 28, 2000 |
|
Great news for everyone. Beginning tomorrow, a new license will be available for purchase. This license gives you access to modify the unencrypted source. For more information on this new license, click here. In addition, a new version is in the works for release within the next few weeks. There are a slew of new features being added, so if you're at all curious what you can expect to see in this new release, click here. If you have any questions regarding the new license or the new features, don't hesitate to give us a hollar.

| Update to v1.05.1 now available |
April 10, 2000 |
|
A bug was shown to us, which has prompted a quick update. The post.tpl showed the required registration dialog when the administrator turned the option OFF instead of ON. Login to go and get it!. While we try to avoid having bugs in the first place, you can rest assured that we'll try to fix any bugs that do come up, as quickly as possible.

|
| New Update this coming week |
March 25, 2000 |
|
A new update will be available this coming week. The complete feature set has not been decided on yet, however, at the minimum, it will include a reserved words database; This helps the moderation burden by preventing posts that have reserved words in them. Administrators can choose to use this option or not (on a global level only), as well as set the list of reserved words, and the chosen set of delimiters. Further additions to the feature set are limited by the development team's time.

| Date Fix Available (v.1.02) |

Head on over to the developer section to download the bug fix today!
|
| Blah Blah Blah |
January 4, 1900 2000 |
A new year, and some new promises. Some big news (hopefully) will be announced soon (hopefully). Or, this could all just be speculation (hopefully?).
Also, it has come to our attention that there is a slight y2k bug that won't hault any boards, just cause a little confusion. Replies to topics that were started before y2k aren't registering as the new topics on the index page (the "Last Post On" part). A fix will be out for that shortly. Sorry about that. We forgot to cross our eyes and dot our t's on this one.

| The Pubb v1.10 (coming soon) |
September 7, 1999 |
|
It has indeed been a while. With this time has come new ideas, better techniques, and a rested mind. Expect this update
which will have some highly requested features (although not all of them), as well as a few things that we wanted to put in,
within a few weeks.
|
| Hey! Why no updates? |
July 26, 1999 |
|
Well, as you can tell, there have been no updates (both news and software) in a while. Some other projects came up
that needed to take precedence. So, you can expect a new update, before the end of August, most likely sooner, that'll
have a few new features. Now is definately the time to give us your 2 cents
on what's good and what's bad. Head on over to the Example message board, and post freely in the
user's request forum.

| New Domain |
July 5, 1999 |
|
As a 4th of July present, we've decided to get ourselves a new domain. So. Here we are.
|
| v1.01 Update |
June 11, 1999 |
|
Two problems recently came to our attention. There is a preference of the pubb that carries the cart value of the current
user throughout his visit in The Pubb. A few forms/links didn't carry the cart, even if this option was checked off. If
you use this option, login right now and download the update. One other small bug was fixed
(referencing an image that didn't exist). Full full information, read the version history contained in the update. To update
to version 1.01, merely overwrite the files in your current directory with the ones contained from the update. This will have
NO EFFECT on your databases and will result in NO LOSS of data. It just changes a few files. We apologize for these oversights.
We correct all bugs that are brought to our attention ASAP. Time it took to post an update for these bugs once the bug was discovered: Roughly 8 hours.
|
| People having problems installing v1.0, read this! |
June 7, 1999 |
|
Some people are having trouble installing v1.0 (myself included actually). This is due to the new "PubbSkin" preference
in the prefs.db. You need to make sure that your databases have been flushed before you install
v1.0, and MAKE SURE that there is a preference in your prefs.db for PubbSkin when you're all done.
There is no bug in v1.0 that is causing this. This has to do with flushing all databases out of RAM in webcat. If you
still have problems, please do not hesitate to e-mail support@thepubb.com.
|
| v1.0 Is OUT! |
June 7, 1999 |
|
I believe all "quirks" from "skinning" the pages have been singled out and dealt with. The feature set for this 1.0 launch is quite
impressive. Any old trial users are both welcome and encouraged to get a new trial of v1.0. That's it. It's late and I'm going to bed. An example board using
v1.0 will be by around Monday early afternoon, but don't let that keep you from downloading it and trying it out for yourself! This also means that orders are
now being accepted. (hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink)
|
| v1.0 On Schedule |
June 6, 1999 |
|
Quick Update: it's currently 10:35pm EST here. v1.0 is now going through a little Quality Control. Especially with the introduction
of skins, it's possible that a few new quirks might show up. We already got rid of a few, so we're just making sure that they're all
gone. So, the release should be available for download in roughly 4 hours! (Yipee!) Anyways, we'll be looking forward to the
feedback (and hopefully the registrations).
|
| v1.0 Expected this weekend |
June 5, 1999 |
|
Here's a brief head's up. v1.0 should be released Sunday night, and orders will then be accepted for The Pubb. Skin support
is looking great, and we will probably allow a TON of modification ability through these skins. We'll also try to include a
few sample skins to initially choose from. That will be limited by time and creativity. Users are encouraged to create their
own skins and share them through this website. Message archiving support will have some back-end work in v1.0, but nothing really
usable to you, the enduser. Full support for that should be out within 1 to 2 weeks. Cookie support for users should be out before
that. Besides all that stuff, we'll be handline all comments and feedback from all of you, and giving as fast a turn-around to them
as possible. The Pubb is shaping up to be a MUCH more powerful messageboard than we ever intended to make it, and we don't plan on
stopping any time soon. We should have an example board of v1.0 up and running Monday morning/afternoon.
If you had a demo that expired and want to try v1.0, just fill out the trial form and you'll get another 14 day trial. We are positive
that you'll find this the absolutely most FEATURE COMPLETE message board out there. Please feel free to e-mail
us with ANY questions or concerns that you may have. Oh, check back often here in the next few days!
|
| Search for v0.80 NOW AVAILABLE! |
June 1, 1999 |
|
As promised, the search is now available for download. Just go to the login section, enter your serial number, and away
you go. I apologize for the delay; a full explanation for that delay is contained in the download.
|
| General Updates |
May 30, 1999 |
|
Thanks to the long weekend, we're hoping to finish this this weekend, otherwise it should be done next weekend.
At the VERY least, that missing search feature in v0.80 should be taken care of this weekend, but we're actually
hoping to go all the way.
In other great news, one site (that's not one of our own) has already gone live using The Pubb (yipee!) and we're
hoping that more will follow in that trend.
|
| Version 0.80 Released |
May 16, 1999 |
|
As promised, version 0.80 is out for all you guys to bang away with. The search is not really working yet
(feel free to just replace it with a copy of faq.tpl for now), but a working one should be out either today
or tomorrow. Phew.
|
| Good News |
May 15, 1999 |
|
The new version will be coming out today. The delay has been in the global search: We weren't sure
how to handle forums that were not set to the default read level (i.e. private forums). This caused
A LOT of headaches for a week in trying to decide the best way to handle it. Well, it's taken far too
long, so whether we get a working search ready or not, by midnight, the new version should be out of here,
with version 1 following a few days after. We appreciate your patience in this matter. To make up for the
delay, we added a few features that we didn't expect to add for a while (you'll see in the version history).
|
| The New Schedule |
May 11, 1999 |
|
Ok. For various reasons (both personal within the programming team, as well as some coding issues), the
new release has been delayed (as you all know). So, the old schedule is no longer valid. What follows is
what we feel should hopefully be the new schedule. Please also note that we'll be moving tomorrow, so we
may be hard to reach for a day.
| Wed May 11 or Thurs May 12 | Version 0.80 Released |
| Sun May 15 | Version 1.0 released (without skins/archiving) |
| Sometime the following week | Limited Skin Support |
| Week after that | Archiving and more skin support |
We apologize for the delays, but The Pubb has been moving along nicely and you'll all find
the final product an excellent first offering (we hope).
|
| ARGH! |
May 11, 1999 |
|
Delayed?!?! You betcha. Good news, we don't plan on sleeping until version .80 is on the web.
We're REALLY hoping to get some feedback on this release....PLEASE!
|
| version .80 slightly delayed |
May 9, 1999 |
|
The features are coming along just nicely, however, a few have taken some unexpected twists. While we may
release late tonight, it may be delayed until tomorrow. Some testing will be done internally as well.
All current testers of The Pubb are greatly encouraged
to make use of the Developer's Message Board in order to provide feedback in the
form of bug reports, feature requests, and general comments. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. So, check
back here (as some of you have been) often for updates.
|
| version .80 due out soon |
May 8, 1999 |
|
We expect the new version out either tonight or tomorrow. One thing that is keeping us back slightly
is the lack of any feedback from current testers. All current testers of The Pubb are greatly encouraged
to make use of the Developer's Message Board in order to provide feedback in the
form of bug reports, feature requests, and general comments. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. So, check
back here (as some of you have been) often for updates.

| Compatibility with Typhoon Pro |
April 29, 1999 |
|
Typhoon Pro is a (kind-of) new product at Pacific Coast (SmithMicro) Software. In short, it is Webcatalog, minus the
e-commerce features, resulting in a dramatically lower cost to the end-user (I believe it is selling for
$495). What does this mean for you? Well, the difference between $2500 and $495 is very dramatic and
puts The Pubb back as a good contender for users without Webcatalog. Beginning with v0.80, The Pubb
should have full compatibility with Typhoon Pro.
|
| v0.66 Now Available online! |
April 27, 1999 |
|
None of the current testers of The Pubb need to download this version. This is just v0.65 with the security
fix. If you are a new user of The Pubb, then you do not need to worry, this version takes care of a security
problem that was discovered yesterday. Current users already received a patch for v0.65 in their e-mail.
At Lab2K, LLC, we take security issues seriously, and make our users aware of them as soon as we are. The
patch was made available to current users 10 minutes after it was discovered by our development team. There
have been no reported cases of any web user taking advantage of this security hole, because only those who are
familiar with all of the files that make up The Pubb, would be able to make use of it.
|
| v0.65 Now Available online! |
April 19, 1999 |
|
The new version is done and online.
With it comes moderation and threaded view. as well as a brand-spanking new
memberseditor.tpl. We wanted to get this new version out ASAP so that we could
get more testing and feedback on these new features. Be
sure to read the documentation for a full explanation of the features. IMPORTANT: Please read
the message board and reply there or through e-mail. Another interesting tidbit
of information: we plan on having version 1.0 out around May 12th, for those of you who are interested in news like that.
|
| Even More Development News |
April 18, 1999 |
|
The moderation system is in. We're just beating it up through some testing, trying to work out any bugs
before the release tonight. As long as time permits, the new memberseditor.tpl will be out tonight as well.
If not, it'll be out as a fix shortly thereafter. Without any unexpected catastrophes, the new version should
be out tonight. We can't wait to get the user feedback.
|
| Development News |
April 15, 1999 |
|
Threaded view has been implemented, and we just need to say, it looks "Sweeeet". Admin can decide
whether a forum will be shown as threaded or flat, on a per forum basis. If demand is there, we'll
add the ability for the general user to choose his/her own preference in an upcoming release. What's
left now is just a little debugging he and there, adding the moderation system (shouldn't take too long),
and creating a better memberseditor.tpl. It looks like Sunday's release date is on target. Hope you're
as excited about trying it as we are in making it!
|
| New Release Date! |
April 14, 1999 |
|
We'll be skipping forward a few versions here. Next release will be v0.65. Why you ask? We've
decided to implement a few features that compose a large majority
of the work that we wanted to finish. Many of the features work hand in hand, so we thought it was
only natural to do them all at once. Visit the development page
to get the lowdown on the new version.
|
| V0.40 Released! |
April 11, 1999 |
|
The new version is out and it's looking great! Key feature is better implementation of anonymous posting. Works MUCH better now.
Other user requests have been implemented as well (view version history in documentation for full listing). We have already
begun coding for the next version, but have not decided on its new feature set yet, nor a target release date. Check back soon
for more information on it. In the meantime, please make sure you post your comments away on the developer's
message board!
|
| Feedback Requested |
April 10, 1999 |
We're working on some features that require some input from our users out there. We kindly request that you glance at the developer's board and tell us what you think.
On a side note, v0.40 is coming along nicely and should be released tonight provided nothing happens like spontaneous combustion.
|
| Version v0.40 to be released soon |
April 6, 1999 |
|
We apologize about the delay. We are expecting the new version to be out around the 10th, with newer versions soon following.
|
| Version v0.40 slightly delayed |
April 2, 1999 |
|
Due to some unforseen circumstances, v0.40 has been delayed for a few days. It will be out very shortly, though. We apologize for any inconvenience this may bring you.
|
| New Version, v.0.35 is out! |
March 22, 1999 |
|
Version 0.35 is out. This is the first version distributed to the public. Documentation isn't perfect
and there are still things that are missing (a FAQ for instance...), but to satisfy people's desires to
actually use this thing, we're putting it out there. To get a 14 trial copy, e-mail us at
trial@thepubb.com. We'll send you a
trial copy serial number. Use that to login to the site to download the software. That serialnumber
acts as your password to the developer's portion of the site, and will expire with your license afer
14 days.
|
| Site News |
March 22, 1999 |
|
The site has gone live in order to best answer everyone's questions about the software. We'll also
be deploying the software through this website as well.
